Grub Around the Grid: Social.

I was headed to happy hour in Bakery Square, which can only mean one place – Social. Home of great outdoor seating and an even better happy hour.

IMG_0182From 5-7 p.m. Monday thru Friday, guests can enjoy $2-3.00 cans and drafts. I selected one of my favorites – the Rivertowne Babbling Blonde. Served in a chilled glass, the American blonde ale pours smooth with the scent of a sweet malts and earthy hops. It’s a refreshing beer with a 5.3 ABV%.

My dinner guest is kind of a picky eater, but Social is the perfect place for that. You have the option to enjoy something fancier like the smoked gouda flatbread or keep it simple with a burger and fries. When it came time for an app order  – he agreed he could handle the tots.IMG_0184

A bowl of tots the size of my head arrived at the table with a bowl of hot queso and awesome mustard sauce on the side. For a small up-charge add chili to the situation. The tots were crispy and paired great with the queso. Tot after tot we ate, but we had to put a stop to it before we filled our bellies full before the entree.

My healthy habits were not on par lately, so I went straight to the salads for my meal. Not every salad strikes my fancy, but Social lets you have it your way. Behold: the build your own salad option.

Warning: Building your own salad will result in a very expensive mountain of green goodness.

It all started with a checklist sheet, a red crayon and a lot of options. Crayons don’t erase, so once a box is checked I have to stick with it – right?

IMG_0183My treasure chest of healthy treats included a base of spinach combined with kale, grilled chicken, avocado, bacon, egg, mozzarella, Granny smith apples, walnuts and an orange vinaigrette on the side.

Before diving in I needed to cut and mix up the ingredients. As impressive as the salad looked, I kind of wished it was pre-cut and mixed for me. Regardless, the vinaigrette was sweet, just the way I like it and the salad was fresh and delicious. The lot was so large I only could finish about half and saved the other half for lunch the next day.

My dinner guest ordered the pepperoni pizza. Again, it was a large serving and look fantastic. I’ve never had pizza at Social before, but I’d like to make it my meal for the next happy hour at Social.

Speaking of specials, Social has a great special every day of the week.
